Capital Square Apartments celebrated the Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting event on September 14th to welcome new residents to Denver’s newest affordable housing development. Colorado’s need for affordable housing continues to increase and Milender White (MW) collaborated with KTGY Architecture, Mile High Development, and Brinshore to help meet this rising demand. Governor Jared Polis visited the Capitol Square Apartments project site earlier this year on February 2, and now that the project is complete the grand opening welcomed many other visitors to celebrate this much-needed addition to the community. Guests of the opening enjoyed coffee and breakfast treats from the neighboring City O’City restaurant and watched as the official ribbon-cutting ceremony commenced.
Capitol Square is located at 1275 Sherman Street, just one block from the Colorado State Capitol Building. The 6-story community (120,405 sq. ft.) provides 103 one- and two-bedroom apartments for those earning 30–80% of the area median income. Amenities include a community space and fitness room at ground level and a landscaped second-floor courtyard and terrace. Parking is provided at the ground and basement levels for 68 vehicles, with two carshare sites.
The Colorado State Land Board owns the land beneath Capitol Square; with a 50-year ground lease with Mile High Development. The lease proceeds support the Land Board’s mission to raise funds for education and the K-12 BEST program. Capitol Square is seeking Enterprise Green Communities certification which highlights the focus on sustainable development for the city.
