A Great Hotel Graces Downtown Denver: The Hyatt Centric Opens Its Doors

April 4, 2022, Denver, CO

Milender White (MW) has completed the newest high-end hotel in Denver’s central business district. Hyatt Centric Downtown Denver is now welcoming guests at 18th and Champa. This new addition to Hyatt’s global collection of upscale city-center hotels was designed by Johnson Nathan Strohe, and Magna Hospitality Group is the owner.

Hyatt Centric Downtown Denver is a 154,298 sq. ft., 15-story tower with a concrete podium utilizing 11 levels of Infinity superstructure, with upper concrete slabs at level 15 and the roof.  Exteriors offer intricate sloped metal panels and insulated, water-resistant finished surfaces to enhance the building’s look. A curtain wall at levels 1 and 2 allows views through glass.

Building in downtown Denver is always challenging, and MW faced some interesting tests as it constructed this hotel. One side of the project site was only 4″ away from the historic Denver City Lofts building, and the other sides were along two busy streets and an alley. With historic preservation in mind, MW engaged structural consultants to monitor vibrations caused by foundation drilling on the adjacent structure. The project also encountered contaminated soils, which the team mitigated through consultation and proper disposal.

Whether traveling for business or pleasure, Hyatt Centric guests are set for a great stay. The 264-key select–service hotel includes the Apple Blossom restaurant featuring farm-to-table cuisine, a hip lobby bar, a top-floor bar with an outdoor terrace and views of Denver and the Front Range, 1,500 sq. ft. of meeting rooms, and a fitness center. New sidewalks, lighting and landscaping complete the picture at the ground floor.

The Hyatt Centric is uniquely designed to capture the spirit of Denver and guests can easily access the local scene. The hotel is across the street from Denver Place, and just a short walk from the Byron White U.S. Courthouse, which MW renovated a few years ago, receiving Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc.’s (ABC) Pyramid Award of Excellence.
