Originally built in the 1960s as a hotel, the building carries decades of history within its walls. Distinctive murals, textured stucco, and stone accents give the property a character that sets it apart, but time took its toll. While the building’s charm remained, its exterior needed thoughtful updates to better serve those who call Joshua Station home.
Milender White’s scope focused on revitalizing the exterior while preserving the building’s identity. The team replaced all exterior railings, repaired damaged brick and stucco, and repainted the entire façade—giving the facility a refreshed appearance without erasing its past.
Just as important as what was built was how the work was done. Because Joshua Station remained occupied and active throughout construction, the project was carefully divided into three phases. This approach allowed residents and staff to continue operations with minimal disruption. When temporary relocations were unavoidable, Milender White worked closely with the client to compress schedules and limit hotel stays—an essential consideration for a nonprofit organization operating with finite resources.
Joshua Station is also the heart of the “Not a Hotel” campaign—a reminder that while the building was once a hotel, its purpose today is far greater. It is a home, a refuge, and a stepping stone toward a safer future.
