For the second year in a row, Milender White (MW) has won Engineering News-Record’s Southern California construction award for Best Residential/Hospitality Project. Catherine Santa Monica takes the honor for 2021, following the win for the Aliso Apartments in 2020. ENR is the national journal of record for the building industry. The win also makes Catherine Santa Monica eligible for ENR’s 2021 Southern California Project of the Year honor, which will be announced in October.
The 90-unit Catherine Santa Monica, built on behalf of developer Fifield Companies and designed by Michael Folonis Architects, is an apartment community that truly exceeds neighborhood norms, especially for a project of its size. The two-building, 77,758 sq. ft. community features ground-floor retail space and an array of amenities, including a large pool and sun deck, a yoga deck, a “Zen deck” quiet enclave, a screening room, and a generously sized lounge-entertainment space. This LEED Platinum-certified community is also energy efficient, and 21% of its units are designated as affordable housing.

Prior to this honor, Catherine Santa Monica was an Associated Builders and Contractors 2020 Excellence in Construction Award Winner (Southern California District).
The Catherine will soon have an adjacent, architecturally distinct second phase, also built by MW: Catherine Santa Monica II, scheduled for fall 2021 completion.
