Rose Andom Center Opens

First integrated domestic violence services facility in Rocky Mountain Region

ARVADA, CO – Milender White staff joined Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, District Attorney Mitch Morrissey, Denver entrepreneur Rose Andom, Margaret Abrams, Maggie Morrissey and over 100 leaders of agencies and organizations that provide services to domestic violence victims to celebrate the opening of the Rose Andom Center. The Rose Andom Center in downtown Denver is the first place in the Rocky Mountain region where victims of domestic violence and their families can receive a wide array of services and support from two dozen agencies in one safe location.

“To a person, every Milender White employee who worked on the Rose Andom Center project understood that they were part of creating a very special and important place for our community,” said Bryon White, President, and CEO of Milender White. “We are honored to be part of this project and proud of our role in helping victims of domestic violence and their families.”

At the June 28 ribbon-cutting ceremony, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock praised Milender White for playing a critical role in getting the Center opened. “There are contractors, there are partners and there are those companies that become part of the family. Milender White moved from contractor straight to family right away. We would not be here today if they didn’t simply say we’re going to get this done no matter what it takes,” Mayor Hancock said.

The Rose Andom Center was built at an existing structure at 1330 Fox Street, a 75,759 sq. ft., three-story, precast concrete building. In collaboration with the Denver Justice Council and the Mayor’s Office, the Center, OZ Architecture and Milender White planned and executed phased renovations, based on fundraising efforts, to transform the building into an attractive, environmentally-efficient and safe and welcoming facility. The project included fully sprinkling the non-sprinkled building, replacing the mechanical system, upgrading the electrical system and replacing all windows at three elevations.

The building includes parking spaces, a secure reception area, conference areas, lease-able office suites and a variety of spaces and offices for services that are provided to victims and families. The Rose Andom Center also includes a comfortable gathering area with a kitchen and play area for children.

The project presented unique challenges due to the extensive renovation needs, security requirements and fundraising issues. Milender White focused on phasing the project to best meet the needs of the clients – providing complete usability for sections of the building so the Center could be opened, while other sections wait for additional funding. Milender White also worked closely with the Denver Justice Council and the City and County of Denver to ensure that the facility met both of their needs.
