A new affordable apartment community is being built just northeast of Los Angeles’ iconic MacArthur Park – the striking 619 Westlake, a joint effort of Milender White, Meta Housing, the Cesar Chavez Foundation and The Architects Collective. The 78-unit, 82,600 sq. ft. development is next to the historic Westlake Theater, on four parcels at 619-629 S. Westlake Avenue.
619 Westlake features a “building block” design, with two towers of three-bedroom apartments linked by a dramatic “bridge” of one-bedroom units spanning a lushly landscaped courtyard. At grade, 619 Westlake also includes a community wing, a social services wing and 29 parking spaces. A METRO station is just two blocks away.
The community’s units will be priced for households earning 30-60% of the area’s median income. Thirty-nine of the apartments are planned as permanent supportive housing for people facing the challenge of homelessness.
Amenities are numerous, and include a community kitchen, a central laundry facility, a tot lot, a dance studio, music practice rooms and a visual arts space.
