Project Summary

The 30-story Curtis Building in downtown Denver was originally constructed in 1971 and included a hotel and office space. It has since been converted to include The Curtis Hotel on the lower 16 floors and student housing for a nearby university campus on the upper 14 floors. The renovation was completed as part of a large-scale redevelopment and urban renewal project.

The Auraria Student Housing upgrades included the addition of a fourth floor fitness room and a third floor study center and student lounge.  Exterior patio renovations include a sport court, wading pool and grilling lounge.

While the majority of construction took place in unused portions of the 3rd and 4th floors, both The Curtis Hotel and the Auraria Student Housing remained fully occupied and operational.  Milender White developed a comprehensive logistics plan for the project prior to construction addressing the issues unique to The Curtis Building including:

  • Safety of residents, guests and the general public
  • Access (deliveries, loading dock restrictions, freight elevator coordination
  • Communication
  • Public relations improvement
  • Air quality, noise and vibration control
  • Lighting and power
  • Security
  • Working hours
