Building Recognition: Three Milender White Projects Receive Construction Industry Awards

This year, Milender White (MW) has received major construction industry awards for three projects. All three have made a positive impact on their communities and are notable for the challenges and obstacles that our teams overcame along the way.

Parkside @ City Center, Aurora, Colorado

MW recently completed Parkside @ City Center, our first MW Development project. This new mixed-use apartment community, located on the northeast corner of Sable Boulevard and Alameda Avenue, features four separate buildings, including a five-story multifamily wrap. Ground-floor retail space features the Parkside Eatery, a micro food hall, and other lifestyle shops.

An RTD light rail stop (Aurora Metro Center Station) is next to the development, providing residents with a quick transportation link to light rail and buses serving the Denver Metro area. Additionally, MW and Northstar Commercial worked with Public Art Services and NINE dot ARTS to implement the City of Aurora’s Art in Public Places Master Plan for the community. The development features several beautiful artworks incorporating a unique blend of light and sound.

Parkside @ City Center has earned four awards so far:

2021 General Contractor Project of the Year, Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Rocky Mountain Chapter

2021 Excellence in Construction, Multi-Family / Residential, Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Rocky Mountain Chapter

2020 Excellence in Construction, Special Prefabrication Project, Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Rocky Mountain Chapter

2020 National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award, National Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc.

Catherine Santa Monica Phase I, Santa Monica, California

This 90-unit apartment community, developed by Fifield Companies and designed by Michael Folonis Architects, exceeds neighborhood norms with its style and amenities. Catherine Santa Monica Phase I is a LEED Platinum-certified community, and 21% of the units are designated as affordable. The 77,758 sq. ft. development features ground-floor retail space and many sought-after features, including a large pool and spacious lounge-entertainment area. Catherine Santa Monica Phase I won the 2021 Southern California Best Residential / Hospitality Project award from Engineering News-Record (ENR), the journal of the U.S. construction industry. This was MW’s second straight win in this category; the Aliso Apartments won the award in 2020. The project also picked up another 2021 award for Excellence in Sustainability.

We are truly honored to receive this recognition for our work on the Catherine,” says Adam Mack, MW’s California District Manager and Executive Vice President. “This is a project that really contributes to the image of Santa Monica as a place of beauty and creativity, and it was completed on schedule and under budget with a percentage of shared savings returned to the owner.”

WomenShelter of Long Beach, Long Beach, California

Since 1977, the WomenShelter of Long Beach has provided safe housing, supportive services, emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis hotline, counseling, social services, and legal and health services for families impacted by domestic violence. MW teamed up with HomeAid Los Angeles to renovate the safehouse of the women’s shelter, contributing its expertise and resources as an in-kind donation to the project. The safehouse reopened on October 28, 2020. Women and children in need in Long Beach now have a comfortable place to shelter where they feel safe and supported. We are honored to be awarded for this project, which makes such a difference in the community.
