Park County 911 Communication Tower

Fairplay, Colorado

Type: Government, Utility & Infrastructure

Owner: Park County

Architect: Valmont Structures (Engineer)

Project Summary

Milender White provided turnkey design and construction for a new 100-ft. self-supporting radio communication tower including installation of a foundation with a 16 ft. x 16 ft. x 4-½ ft. thick mat. The new radio tower supports communications infrastructure for Park County 911 and Search and Rescue. The tower is located just north of the intersection of Rt. 9 and Hwy 285.

Due to the 110mph wind speed requirement and the fact that the structure supports a large, 6-ft. diameter microwave dish, the tower has heavy components including truss legs and large diagonal bracing.

Following award of the tower, Park County requested that Milender White’s design include an additional 30% capacity for carriers to co-locate at a later time. This allows Park County the flexibility to install future loading without requiring structural modifications. Also, the carrier addition creates a revenue stream for Park County.
